WreckHost Shared Hosting is designed to provide reliable website, database, email, and related hosting services in a shared server environment.
Because server resources are shared among multiple customers, all customers are expected to use those resources responsibly. This Resource Usage & Fair Use Policy is intended to protect the performance, stability, security, and availability of WreckHost Services for everyone using them.
FAIR USE OF SHARED RESOURCES
Shared Hosting accounts are intended for normal website and email hosting activities.
Customers may use the resources included with their hosting plan provided that their usage does not negatively affect the server, WreckHost infrastructure, or other customers.
Resources that may be monitored or managed include:
CPU usage
Memory usage
Disk space
Disk input/output (I/O)
Disk operations
Processes
Concurrent processes or connections
Database usage
Database connections
Bandwidth and network traffic
File and inode usage
PHP processes
Cron jobs and scheduled tasks
Email activity
Other server or network resources
Resource availability and limits may vary depending on the hosting plan, server configuration, and infrastructure being used.
EXCESSIVE RESOURCE USAGE
Resource usage may be considered excessive when an account, website, application, or process repeatedly or continuously consumes enough resources to negatively affect:
Server stability
Server performance
Network performance
Other customers
Website availability
Database performance
Email services
Security
Backup operations
WreckHost infrastructure
A brief increase in resource usage caused by legitimate website traffic will not necessarily be considered a violation.
However, sustained or repeated resource usage that adversely affects the shared hosting environment may require corrective action.
CPU AND MEMORY USAGE
Shared Hosting accounts may not continuously consume excessive CPU or memory resources.
Common causes of excessive CPU or memory usage may include:
Poorly optimized websites
Inefficient WordPress plugins or themes
Excessive PHP processes
Runaway scripts
Automated tasks
Malware
Excessive bots or crawlers
Database-intensive applications
Resource-intensive imports or exports
Background processing
Applications unsuitable for Shared Hosting
WreckHost may temporarily limit processes or account resources when necessary to maintain server stability.
DISK USAGE AND STORAGE
Disk space provided with Shared Hosting is intended primarily for files directly associated with the operation of the websites and Services hosted under the account.
Shared Hosting may not be used primarily as:
A personal file storage service
A cloud storage service
A remote hard drive
A file dumping service
A large-scale backup repository
An archival storage service
A file synchronization platform
A software distribution repository
A media storage or download service
Website files, databases, email, logs, and reasonable backups associated with the hosted website are permitted subject to the applicable hosting plan and this policy.
WreckHost may require the removal of unusually large quantities of files that are unrelated to normal website operation.
FILES AND INODES
Accounts containing unusually large numbers of files or directories may affect filesystem performance, backups, account management, or server stability even when the account remains below its advertised disk space allowance.
WreckHost may establish reasonable inode or file-count limits where necessary.
Customers may be asked to remove unnecessary:
Cache files
Temporary files
Old backups
Session files
Log files
Duplicate files
Abandoned website files
Other unnecessary data
Repeated creation of excessive numbers of files may result in account restrictions.
DATABASE USAGE
Databases hosted on Shared Hosting must be used for normal website and application purposes.
Customers may not operate databases in a manner that creates excessive server load.
Examples may include:
Excessive database queries
Long-running queries
Poorly optimized database queries
Excessive concurrent database connections
Continuously running database processes
Extremely large temporary tables
Applications repeatedly querying databases at unusually high rates
Using the database server primarily for external applications unrelated to the hosted website
WreckHost may restrict or terminate problematic database processes when necessary to protect server stability.
CRON JOBS AND AUTOMATED TASKS
Cron jobs and other scheduled tasks must be configured responsibly.
Automated processes may not be scheduled at unnecessarily frequent intervals or operated in a manner that creates excessive server load.
WreckHost may restrict or disable cron jobs or automated processes that:
Run continuously
Overlap repeatedly
Create excessive CPU usage
Create excessive memory usage
Generate excessive disk activity
Generate excessive network traffic
Cause database performance issues
Interfere with other customers or Services
Customers should configure automated tasks to run only as frequently as reasonably necessary.
BACKGROUND PROCESSES
Shared Hosting is not intended for continuously running server applications or general-purpose computing workloads.
Unless specifically permitted by WreckHost, customers may not operate:
Persistent background daemons
Cryptocurrency mining
Blockchain nodes
Artificial intelligence model training
Continuous AI inference workloads
Distributed computing applications
Rendering applications
Game servers
Proxy servers
VPN servers
IRC servers
Continuous data-processing applications
Other long-running applications that are not typical website processes
Some applications may require a VPS, Dedicated Server, or another service designed for persistent workloads.
BANDWIDTH AND NETWORK USAGE
Bandwidth provided with a Shared Hosting plan is intended for legitimate traffic associated with the websites and Services hosted under the account.
Customers may not intentionally generate excessive network traffic or use Shared Hosting primarily to provide high-bandwidth file distribution.
Examples of potentially inappropriate bandwidth usage include:
Public file mirrors
Large-scale software distribution
File lockers
Public download repositories
Continuous audio or video streaming
Large-scale image hosting
Peer-to-peer file sharing
Proxy or traffic relay services
Artificial or automated traffic generation
A legitimate increase in visitors or website popularity is not automatically considered abuse.
However, exceptionally high or sustained traffic that exceeds the reasonable capabilities of a Shared Hosting environment may require migration to another hosting solution.
BACKUPS
WreckHost may provide backup functionality as part of certain hosting Services.
Customer-generated backups stored within a Shared Hosting account must remain reasonable in size and quantity.
Customers should regularly remove obsolete backups.
Shared Hosting accounts may not be used primarily to store:
Backups of computers
Backups of unrelated servers
Large collections of historical backups
Backups belonging to third parties
Data unrelated to the websites hosted under the account
Customers remain responsible for maintaining their own copies of important data according to the applicable WreckHost Terms of Service and Backup Policy.
WORDPRESS AND CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Customers using WordPress or another content management system are responsible for maintaining their applications in a reasonable and secure condition.
Customers should:
Keep WordPress or other CMS software updated
Maintain current plugins and themes
Remove unused plugins and themes
Remove abandoned installations
Repair malware infections
Address malfunctioning plugins or scripts
Use caching and optimization where appropriate
Avoid applications that repeatedly exhaust account resources
An outdated, compromised, or poorly configured website may consume significant resources or create a security risk for the hosting environment.
WreckHost may temporarily restrict or disable affected applications where necessary to protect the server or other customers.
RESOURCE LIMITS
WreckHost may establish reasonable resource limits for individual hosting packages, accounts, websites, applications, or servers.
These limits may include limits relating to:
CPU
Memory
Disk I/O
Processes
Concurrent connections
Database connections
Bandwidth
Disk space
File or inode counts
Other server resources
Resource limits may differ between hosting packages and may be adjusted as WreckHost infrastructure and Services evolve.
Unless specifically stated as part of a hosting package, resource availability should not be interpreted as a guarantee that an account may continuously consume all available server resources.
TRAFFIC SPIKES
WreckHost understands that legitimate websites may occasionally experience unexpected increases in traffic.
Temporary traffic spikes will generally be handled differently from sustained abusive or inappropriate resource consumption.
Where possible, WreckHost may work with the customer to determine whether:
Website optimization is needed
Caching should be improved
A plugin or application is causing excessive load
Malicious traffic is involved
The customer requires a higher-capacity hosting solution
WreckHost reserves the right to temporarily restrict an account during an extreme traffic or resource event if necessary to maintain server stability.
SECURITY-RELATED RESOURCE USAGE
Resource consumption resulting from malware, compromised websites, vulnerable applications, malicious bots, brute-force attacks, or other security incidents may require immediate action.
WreckHost may temporarily:
Restrict an account
Disable a website
Disable a script
Disable a plugin
Terminate a process
Restrict network access
Restrict outgoing email
Take other reasonable action necessary to contain the incident
Where practical, WreckHost will work with the customer to identify and resolve the underlying problem.
A temporary restriction resulting from a compromised website does not necessarily mean that the customer intentionally violated this policy.
IMPACT ON OTHER CUSTOMERS
No Shared Hosting customer may use their account in a manner that substantially interferes with another customer’s ability to use WreckHost Services.
Protecting the overall stability of the shared environment takes priority over allowing an individual account to continuously consume excessive resources.
WreckHost may take reasonable action whenever an account threatens:
Server stability
Network stability
Service availability
Security
Email reputation
IP reputation
Data integrity
Backup operations
The performance of other customers
MONITORING
WreckHost may monitor server and account resource usage for operational, security, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and abuse-prevention purposes.
Monitoring may include resource statistics, server logs, process information, bandwidth usage, database activity, security events, and other technical information necessary to operate and protect our Services.
Such monitoring does not mean WreckHost continuously reviews customer website content.
ENFORCEMENT
When an account exceeds reasonable Shared Hosting resource usage, WreckHost may take one or more actions depending on the severity and circumstances.
Where reasonably practical, WreckHost may first:
Notify the customer
Identify the resource problem
Recommend website or application optimization
Request that unnecessary processes be stopped
Request that resource-intensive applications be modified or removed
Recommend a more appropriate hosting solution
When necessary to protect the server or other customers, WreckHost may also:
Apply temporary resource restrictions
Terminate individual processes
Disable problematic scripts or applications
Temporarily restrict a website
Temporarily suspend an account
Restrict network or email functionality
Immediate action may be taken without advance notice when usage threatens server stability, security, network availability, or the operation of other customer accounts.
REPEATED RESOURCE ISSUES
Customers who repeatedly exceed the reasonable capabilities of Shared Hosting may be required to optimize their website or move to a more appropriate hosting solution.
Repeated resource issues may include:
Continually reaching account resource limits
Repeated server performance problems
Excessive database usage
Continuously high CPU usage
Excessive memory usage
Excessive disk activity
Repeated process exhaustion
Excessive automated activity
Applications that are fundamentally unsuitable for Shared Hosting
Where an appropriate alternative is available, WreckHost may recommend a higher-capacity hosting plan, VPS, Dedicated Server, or other suitable solution.
FAIR USE DOES NOT MEAN UNLIMITED USE
A hosting plan advertised with generous or unlimited access to a particular resource does not permit use that negatively affects the shared hosting environment.
“Unlimited,” where used, means that WreckHost does not establish a predetermined fixed quota for that particular resource under ordinary website usage.
It does not mean that server resources are infinite or that an account may consume resources without reasonable limitations.
All usage remains subject to this Resource Usage & Fair Use Policy.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY
Customers are responsible for ensuring that the websites, applications, scripts, databases, files, email accounts, users, and automated processes operated through their account comply with this policy.
Customers are also responsible for maintaining their websites and applications in a secure and reasonably optimized condition.
WreckHost encourages customers to contact support if they believe their website is unexpectedly consuming excessive resources.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
WreckHost may update this Resource Usage & Fair Use Policy as our Services, technology, infrastructure, and operational requirements change.
The current version will be posted on the WreckHost website with its applicable revision date.
